Seven tips to avoid breast cancer

Written by FDM

As October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The World Health Organization published seven tips for women around the world to prevent breast cancer:

1. Get familiar with the natural shape and texture of the breast, because the signs of infection differ from a woman to another.

2. Perform breast self-exams at least once a month (at the end of the menstrual cycle and in the case of menopause, set a fixed day as the first day of the month). Consult a doctor in case you notice any change in the breasts.

3. Commit to good life hygiene as well as a healthy diet that relies on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and more…

4. Breastfeeding has an effective role in preventing breast cancer, and the longer the breastfeeding period, the greater the preventive effect from the disease

5. Abstaining from smoking reduces the risk of breast cancer.

6. Exercise 30 minutes a day to help maintain weight and prevent breast cancer. Hormone therapy of 3 years and more increases the risk of breast cancer, so you should ask your doctor about a non-hormonal alternative treatment or take the lowest dose that is useful in treatment.

7. Avoid medical imaging methods that use radiation as much as possible.
