Hollywood A-Listers brought their A game to the oscars. And it’s all thanks to creations of seasoned middle eastern designers.

After she was reportedly planning to wear Chanel to the oscars, actress Meryl Streep showed up to the award show last night wearing Eli Saab couture.  The actress opted for a navy, jewel-encrusted off-the-shoulder gown paired with a slim-cut pant underneath :

The Lebanese designer also found a fan in actress Janelle Monáe. For her first trip to the Academy Awards, Monáe arrived in an ornate Elie Saab Haute Couture gown constructed from layers of tulle, diamonds, and crystals making for one of the most dramatic red-carpet looks of the night.

Meanwhile, director Ava DuVernay paid tribute to Saudi designer Mohammed Ashi by wearing an Ashi Studio gown as a “small sign of solidarity.”
