The Gnaoua Festival Tour had the fans buzzing with excitement on Thursday evening with the third stage in Casablanca. Despite a delay of nearly two hours, the festive vibe took the audience into the mystical world of Gnaoua.

The first concert kicked off with the duo of Maâlem Rachid Hamzaoui and his daughter Asmaa. Coming from a Gnaoua family, Maâlem Rachid El Hamzaoui is one of the emblematic figures of the Gnaoua school in Casablanca. His passion for Gnaoua art was naturally transmitted to his daughter Asmae who joined him on stage for a gig full of rhythms and emotions. Asmaa Hamzaoui also performed with her female band Bnat Timbouktou, of which she became the leader at only 20 years old.

The show continued with another fascinating performance by five artists who offered the audience a magical fusion of folk, blues, and Gnaoua. A sublime artistic encounter of Maâlem Hassan Boussou, the young composer and performer Soukaina Fahsi, the English folk singer Piers Faccini, the French drummer Cyril Atef and the passionate musician Malik Ziad, offered the audience an exceptional performance of great beauty, proving that different musical genres can merge wonderfully.

Each singer and musician brought their original touch to the traditional Gnaoui repertoire by Maâlem Hassan Boussou to offer this musical creation that completely seduced and enchanted the public. These five artists have once again proved that music can create bridges and transcend differences.

The Gnaoua Festival Tour in Casablanca program consists of nine concerts including 4 fusions, on June 16 and 17 at the Esplanade Stade Mohammed V and on June 19 at the Touria & Abdelaziz Tazi Foundation (L’Uzine).
