Written by FDM

Launched in January 2020, the “REDIP” project for the fight against gender-based violence against children and teenagers delivers its results and solutions.

The project “REDIP: Strengthening the response of the integrated protection system against sexual violence in the cities of Fez and Meknes”, was launched in January 2020 and implemented by the Moroccan association “AMANE in partnership with the Spanish NGO AIDA, and with the financial support of the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation, aims to contribute to the fight against gender-based violence against girls and adolescents in these two cities.

Coming to an end in July 2022, the Project has delivered positive results and successful solutions, namely:

– The realization of a national study within the framework of the REDIP project in order to better understand the current situation of gender-based violence in Morocco, the causes of the persistence of this violence, and its consequences on the lives of children. This study revealed that Sexual violence represents a quarter of the violence suffered (25.3%) and affects girls (61%) much more than boys (39%). This explains why gender stereotypes are based in particular on traditions and a patriarchal culture which contributes to considering violence against children as a socially accepted educational method.

– Strengthening the capacities of actors in the child protection system on the detection and management of cases of sexual violence against girls and teenagers, to give them the possibility of having a better future. Thus, 64 actors from civil society and representatives of different institutions were trained in Fez and Meknes.

– Legal, social, psychological, and medical care for more than 138 child victims of violence.

– Since awareness is an important instrument for demystifying taboos, 257 children and 125 parents benefited from 36 training/awareness sessions and educational projects created with young college students (plays theatrical performances, video animations, an exhibition of paintings, wall drawings, etc.).

– The creation of an online platform for children aged 9 to 15, called Espace Jeunes. It offers fun activities, in Arabic and French, adapted to the interests of young people to learn to recognize the signs of violence (online, at school, etc.), to know how and whom to talk about it, and self-defense.

– The launch of the “KAFA 3onfane didda al-atfal” digital campaign has made it possible to raise awareness among more than 500,000 people aged 18 to 64 about the dangers of violence against children and the measures put in place by the State and associations to support child victims and their families and fight against the devastating effects of violence on the construction of children and the development of society. Personalities from various backgrounds: actors, musicians, politicians, and journalists did not hesitate to support the campaign, such as “Samia Akariou, Groupe Lazywall, Jihane Bougrine, Abdessamad El Horfi, Hamid El Hadri, Soufiane Nhass, Amina Maelainine or even Hamid Bouchnak. »
