Amazement gripped the room when Will Smith stormed the stage, in the middle of the 94th Academy Awards, to hit comedian Chris Rock in the face. The latter, one of the presenters of this edition of the most prestigious awards in Hollywood, had just made a joke about Jada Pinkett, Smith’s wife. He more accurately compared her shaved hair to Demi Moore’s head in the film “G.I. Jane” by Ridley Scott (1997).
Although Jada Pinkett Smith had already gone public with her alopecia (autoimmune hair loss condition), she did not appreciate the joke as her countenance clearly revealed. Thus Will Smith was quick to react unexpectedly in what would appear as a staged skit before yelling “leave my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth.”
However, later in his acceptance speech for the Best Male Actor Award for his role as Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams, in the film “King Richard”, Smith presented, in tears, his apologies to the team of his film and to the organizers of the Oscars.
Meanwhile, Smith’s actions have been widely condemned on social media, with many arguing he should be charged with assault. However, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, Chris Rock will not be pressing charges against him.
