Moroccan singer Saâd Lamjarred returns to cour for alledged rape of Laura Prioul, a French national.

While Saad Lamjarred’s leading a successful carrier especially with his latest single reaching more than 7.2 million views on YouTube, justice-wise, things are going very badly for him. Indeed The investigative chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal has ordered the singer’s return to the Assize Court for aggravated rape and aggravated violence of a 20-year-old young woman in 2016.

The facts denounced by the victim would have taken place in the room of a Parisian hotel, a few days before a concert by the artist. After spending six months in prison Saad Lamjarred was released on bail under an electronic bracelet in April 2017.

The artist was then sent back to correctional in April 2019 by an examining magistrate who decided to reclassify the facts as “sexual assault” and “aggravated violence” . This order was overturned by the investigating chamber of the court of appeal in January 2020, which considered that the facts should be qualified as rape, a crime punishable by assizes.

The Court of Cassation, however, invalidated this decision, for a lack of signature of the president of the chamber. Re-entering the facts, the court of appeal again ordered on March 2 that Saad Lamjarred be tried at the assizes for “aggravated rape”, in accordance with the requisitions of the general prosecutor’s office. The singer faces up to 20 years in prison for these crimes.
