After two years of interruption due to the COVID-19 crisis, the École Supérieure des Arts Visuels (ÉSAV) in Marrakech, the Leila Alaoui cinema (French Institute in Marrakech), the Colisée cinema, the Es Saadi Marrakech Resort and the Dar Bellarj Foundation are meeting for a third edition of the Marrakech Film Festival.
On the program: an array of previously unseen Moroccan films: L’Automne des pommiers (Mohamed Mouftakir), The Women of Pavilion J (Mohamed Nadif), Mica (Ismaël Ferroukhi), and Zanka Contact (Ismaël El Iraki). In the presence of the filmmakers and actors, the spectators will be able to discuss and take stock of the issues and trends at work in this cinematography always very rich in beautiful surprises.
A special place will also be devoted to contemporary Moroccan documentary cinema, with the screening of Dans tes yeux, je vois mon pays (Kamal Hachkar), Dima Punk (Dominique Caubet), L’École de l’espoir (Mohamed El Aboudi) and Nayda? (Hicham Lasri). A round table comprising of professionals from the sector (producers, directors, etc.) will discuss this cinematographic genre which is currently experiencing considerable growth in Morocco while continuing to encounter certain production difficulties.
The guest of honor of this edition is the Moroccan actress Raouia. On this occasion, a retrospective of some of her flagship films (Les Yeux secs by Narjiss Nejjar, Rock the Casbah by Laïla Marrakchi, and Lhajjates by Mohamed Achaour) as well as a masterclass which will allow the public to revisit her journey.
