Laila Marrakchi Represents Morocco at the Helsinki International Film Festival

Written by FDM

Laila Marrakchi’s feature film “Rock the Casbah” was screened on September 20, at the Helsinki International Film Festival (from September 16 to 27) with the assistance of the Embassy of the Kingdom in Helsinki.

Morocco’s participation in this festival will also be marked by the holding, on September 21, of a panel discussion, moderated by the Moroccan director residing in Finland, Mohamed El Aaboudi. This side event allows us to explore the artistic universe of the Moroccan filmmaker and discover his documentaries, including two recently awarded in Finland.

This panel discussion will also be an opportunity to promote the cinematographic brand image of Morocco as a destination and privileged location for the shooting of a number of international productions.

Moreover, Moroccan cinema will be in the spotlight in the short film category of the festival with the film by Sofia Alaoui “So What If The Goats Die”, awarded at the Cesar Film Festival in France.

This year’s edition, which will run until Sunday, September 26, will feature a selection of African films from the “African Express” catalog. In addition, African short films will be screened as part of the “Short Station” catalog. These two selections are intended to be a showcase for African cinema in all its diversity and richness.
