Films participating in the festival compete for the Black Iris Shield (Jordan National Flower), Best Arab Feature, Best Documentary, and Best Arab Short Awards. Thus, three Moroccan films are participating in the feature film competition: “Oliver Black” by Taoufiq Baba, “Another battle” by Mohamed Fekran, and “Rue Contact” by Ismail El Iraki. In addition, two Moroccan films are in competition for the Arab short film prize, namely “The rebellious child” by Shahrazad Moumni Bardaei and “Aisha” by Zakaria Moumni.
The film “Another Battle” by director Mohamed Fekran, presented for the first time in the Arab world, sheds light on the issue of illegal immigration, especially among minor children, by telling the story of three children seeking to migrate illegally to the northern shore of the Mediterranean and the risks they will face to achieve their dream.
The film “Dans la Maison” (In the house), tells the story of the director’s relationship with her mother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. From Brussels to Tangier, the film looks back on the journey of a diaspora family, shaped by moments of confession or silence and feelings of pain and joy. The film won the jury prize at the 2021 Millennium International Documentary Film Festival.
The feature film “Oliver Black” tells the story of Vendredi, a young black African who crosses the desert to master the art of the circus in Morocco, but ends up joining the terrorist organization “Daesh”. The film has won numerous national and international awards, including the Grand Prix for Best Film at the Seoul Guro International Kids Film Festival 2021, the Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Tangier National Film Festival 2020, the Award for Best Director and Best Actor at the Los Angeles Fashion Festival 2020.
