Forbes: Two Moroccan women on the Women Behind Middle Eastern Brands list

Written by FDM

Two Moroccan women are on Forbes Magazine’s “Women Behind Middle Eastern Brands” 2020 list which celebrates the creators of brands and startups.

On the forbes list of commercial brands created by women, we find Salwa Idrissi Akhannouch for her brand Yan & One and Mouna Abbassi for the “Izil Beauty” brand.

This ranking, the first of its kind, distinguishes women entrepreneurs who have succeeded in proving themselves in different fields by “capturing the interest of consumers and investors while evolving towards a profitable and sustainable business”. Various criteria were taken into account to make this selection, such as revenues / growth rate, social media followers, number of countries the brand is present in celebrities who believed in the brand, media coverage …

As a reminder, Moroccan businesswoman Salwa Idrissi Akhannouch launched her cosmetics brand Yan & One in 2017. She is also the founder and CEO of the Aksal group, which is the sole franchisee of several major brands in Morocco (Fendi, Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Zara…). Ms. Akhannouch has already received numerous accolades, including the “Arab Women of the Year 2016” and the “African Woman in Business” Trophy in 2017. In 2018, Salwa Idrissi Akhannouch was chosen among “The 50 Women of ‘influential affairs in Africa’.

Regarding Mouna Abbassi, she created the brand “Izil Beauty” in 2012 in Dubai. It specializes in the development of beauty products and established its cosmetic product factory last year in Ras al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates.

The forbes list includes 40 business leaders who have established brands in the Middle East region. Other top brand creators include Iraqi-American Huda Kattan, creator of the Huda beauty brand, and Lebanese-American Reem Acra who dresses celebrities such as Halle Berry or Beyoncé.
