Trump to appoint Moroccan Dr. Moncef Slaoui to develop a coronavirus vaccine

Donald Trump plans to appoint Moroccan expert Moncef Slaoui, former head of the GlaxoSmithKline Plc vaccine division to lead the development of a new coronavirus vaccine.

Along with Gustave Perna, an American general, Dr. Moncef Slaoui, 60, will volunteer to lead the initiative known as Operation Warp Speed. The official announcement of the decision was made  Wednesday, May 13, according to the American agency Bloomberg.

Jim Greenwood, President, and CEO of Bio, the biotech industry organization, said Slaoui was a great choice and someone who has always stood for scientific excellence. He holds a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from the Libre University of Brussels according to its LinkedIn page.

The Trump administration’s plan is to produce 300 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine by the end of the year.
