The Ministry of Health has approved o “emergency use for 12 months” of the AstraZeneca vaccine. Already authorized by Argentina and India, the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine is the first vaccine whose efficacy results have been validated by the prestigious scientific journal, The Lancet.

Following the favorable opinion of the advisory commission, the Ministry of Health signed on January 6, 2021, the authorization for temporary emergency use (for a period of 12 months) of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The vaccine named ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 (AZD1222) with the trade name COVISHIELD, developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca could be the first vaccine used by Morocco as part of its vaccination campaign which could take place in the coming days.

It should be noted that Morocco has placed an order for 65 million doses (25 million doses of the Swedish-British vaccine and 40 million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine) with the aim of vaccinating 80% of people over 18 (i.e. more than 23 million inhabitants), through an operation in 3 phases spread over 12 weeks.
