Gigi and Bella Hadid sporting turbans in Marc Jacob’s Fashion week show

Written by FDM

The last slot on the New York fashion week schedule belonged to Marc Jacobs, in which headwear took centre stage and Palestinian-American models Gigi and Bella Hadid embraced their Arab roots.

The Hadid sisters are showcased in the American fashion designer’s Spring 2018 collection, alongside a line-up of millennial models, including Cindy Crawford’s daughter Kaia Gerber,  Kendall Jenner, and Taylor Hill…  which Reuters describes as a bold collection with an « Arabian flair. »

According to Vogue Arabia, Turbans were the heart of the look – « silk ones, jewel-encrusted, exaggerated, and stacked high on back-combed hair. »  in a show that celebrated modest fashion.

The designer himself wore a « sporty-meets-chic number [which] resembled an updated version of an ‘Arabian Nights’ character, » said Reuters. The decision to cast the Hadids on the show thereby should come as no surprise considering their middle eastern background.
