During a virtual meeting held this week, on the development and prosperity of women in the world, the US State Department cited Morocco as an example in this area through the campaign in support of the “Melkisation” operation aiming at the appropriation of Soulaliyate lands, within the framework of the partnership with the Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
In the presence of the Advisor and daughter of the US President, Ivanka Trump, as well as other officials, Assistant Secretary of State Stephen Biegun said that the “MCC has worked, through the Global Development Initiative and Prosperity of Women (W-GDP), with the Moroccan government to recognize the rights of all heirs, and especially girls, to inherit and own lands”.
The American official thus gave the example of a Moroccan woman by the name of Samira Sabri, a woman from the Marrakech-Safi region, who “will finally be able to legally inherit the land from her father. She will now have the right to work on the land that her family has been farming for generations and to use it to support her own family”.
Likewise, continued Deputy Secretary of State, Samira “ as a landowner, will also have better access to capital, education, and opportunities. She will contribute to the prosperity of her nation, and she will be economically autonomous “.
Expressing his joy at “ seeing more women like Samira succeed”, the official said that the State Department“ is also working to improve women’s access to courts in Côte d’Ivoire, Eswatini, Africa South, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea ”. He also wished to recall that similar programs on women’s rights are being undertaken in other countries such as Afghanistan and Pakistan.
