Two Arab women featured in Nike’s “Dream Crazier” campaign

The new Nike campaign “Dream crazier” tailored for women with big dreams has featured two Arab athletes who break barriers. Egyptian runner Manal Rostom and Emirati figure skater Zahra Lari.

This year, Nike released its latest ad campaign, narrated by Serena Williams and titled “Dream Crazier”, to tackle stereotypes about women athletes and highlight all their accomplishments. After a series of international athletes sharing their stories, the campaign is now expanding to the middle east. To date, it has featured two Arab hustlers, Emirati figure skater Zahra Lari and Egyptian runner Manal Rostom.

In her video, Emirati figure skater Zahra Lari spoke about becoming the world’s first figure skater to compete in a hijab. According to Step feed, “The five-time UAE ice skating national champion is no stranger to making history as she’s the UAE’s first figure skater to compete in the Winter Games qualifications in 2018. She also led the UAE to become the first Arab state to join the International Skating Union.”

As for Egyptian athlete Manal Rostom, she has been an ambassador of Nike’s Pro Hijab line since its launch in 2017.  Her spot highlights the inspiring journey of Rostom as she sends a message to women across the region. The Egyptian marathoner posted the video on her Instagram page, captioning it: “It’s as if I’ve lived my whole entire Life for this one-minute, 12 seconds video.”
