Tunisian Marwan Kenzari to play Jafar in Aladdin remake

Despite the rumors announcing Tom Hardy in the role of Jafar for the film « Aladdin », it was finally Marwan Kenzari who was chosen by Disney.

Disney’s Aladdin movie has found its Jafar. Marwan Kenzari, a Dutch actor of Tunisian origin, will play the great vizier of Agrabah alongside Mena Massoud (Aladdin) and Naomi Scott (Jasmine), among others, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The 34-year-old has starred in The Promise and The Mummy, and before seeking to dethrone Jasmine’s father, Kenzari is expected to skyrocket to fame thanks to his upcoming role in the mystery film Murder on the Orient Express.

Aladdin’s live-action adaptation by Guy Ritchie ( Snatch , RocknRolla) is starting to take shape quite nicely. Will Smith will play the Genie of the Lamp and Nasim Pedrad (former star of Saturday Night Live ) will play Mara, Jasmine’s maid. We shall wait to know more, the film is scheduled in 2018.
