The first driving licenses issued to women in Saudi Arabia

While the end of the ban on female drivers in Saudi Arabia is set on June 24th, the first driving licenses have already been issued.

The countdown to the royal decree authorizing women to drive in Saudi Arabia starts. On June 24, they can easily get on the driver’s seat. And the first ten driving licenses have already been issued.

Authorities in Saudi Arabia issued the first driver’s license to a woman on June 4, as the process began for the royal decree to enter into force. The Saudi General Traffic Directorate in Riyadh started allowing women to trade international licenses for national ones at various locations around the kingdom, the Saudi Press Agency announced.

A historic  revolution in this conservative country that is still criticized by women’s rights activists, especially that Saudi Arabia still endorses male guardianship and 11 activists including three prominent ones (Loujain al-Hathloul, Eman al-Nafjan and Aziza al-Youssef) were arrested on May 15 …
