The Attijariwafa bank Foundation organized, in partnership with the Professional Union of Publishers of Morocco (UPEM), Monday, February 12, 2018, within the Actua art space in Casablanca, the launching ceremony of the 2018 literary year is in its third edition.
This cultural event took place on the sidelines of the 24th edition of the International Publishing and Book Fair (SIEL), in the presence of Mr. Mohamed Al Aaraj, Minister of Culture and Communication and many intellectuals, writers and publishers, and allowed the audience to discover the latest news and immerse themselves in the major literary trends of the year 2017.
For the occasion, Mr. Mohamed El Kettani, Chairman and CEO of the Attijariwafa bank group said: “A ceremony such as ours tonight is a reminder of how important it is for our country, to support intellectual production under all circumstances and forms, and encourage reading as a means of transmitting knowledge, especially to our youth “.
The President also announced the official launch of the Book of the Year Award by Attijariwafa bank Foundation, the first literary prize awarded by a private institution in Morocco. It will be awarded every February, starting in February 2019, to two book authors, one in Arabic and the other in French.
“The recipients of the Book of the Year Award will receive a check for 30,000 DH with a trophy donated by our Foundation,” said Mohamed El Kettani.
Through the celebration of the 2018 literary year and the launch of the Book of the Year Award, Attijariwafa bank Foundation is consolidating its support for intellectual production and the promotion of reading among the general public. It affirms, once again, its commitment to constructive debate and access to culture in all its forms.
