Swedish music festival to be women-only ‘until all men learn how to behave themselves’

Following a string of sexual assault reports at festivals in the country, “Sweden’s first man-free rock festival will see the light next summer,” its organizer has confirmed,

The festival which will take place from August 31  to September 1st, 2018 in Gothenburg, will be reserved exclusively for “women, transsexual and non-binary people”.

In order to fight against the sexual aggressions and rapes which, unfortunately, take place regularly during the big musical meetings that are the festivals, Emma Knyckare, a 30-year-old swedish comedian, launched a crowdfunding request in early September for the creation of a “safe for everyone” festival without men.

“What do you think about putting together a really cool festival where only non-men are welcome, that we’ll run until ALL men have learned how to behave themselves?”

It would seem she received a lot of support for the idea, as she confirmed on Instagram the introduction of “Sweden’s first man-free rock festival” dubbed “Statement Festival” which will be held in at the end of summer 2018, in Gothenburg.

Sexual allegations in festivals are a worldwide problem. Therefore “Statement” is the first – and last?- festival that aims to “create a safe space” exclusively for people who self-identify as women.
