Survey: Moroccans have a desire to travel right after lockdown ends

Written by FDM

According to a survey conducted by the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), many Moroccans have a big urge to travel.

Traveling alone or with family, with a small or big budget, to de-stress after more than three months of lockdown. These were the points on which the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) focused to conduct a recent survey *. Results:

  • 52.3% of those questioned believe that traveling is a form of relief while 45%, say it is a means of relaxation and rest.
  • 52.1% of respondents plan to go on a trip with a small family (4 people), 15.2% with a large family, 14.3% alone, 11% with friends or colleagues, and 7.5% with a partner.
  • The majority of them plan to stay with family and more than a third in rental houses or apartments.

However, as the ONMT reports, one in two people is still reluctant or simply does not intend to travel! the reasons being the ever-present fear of catching the Coronavirus (Covid-19), for others, the lack of means, the latter being more frequently mentioned by the inhabitants of Casablanca-Settat and Marrakech-Safi.

Thus, according to the ONMT, to encourage internal tourism at the end of lockdown, it is necessary to combine “very strict health measures, especially in tourist establishments” and “offers at reduced prices”.

* Sample of 2,800 people aged between 18 and 75 years old.
