“Sois une femme-كني امرأة”, the awareness campaign combating violence against women

‘Jeel Média’ launched an awareness campaign in light of International Women’s Day to raise awareness around the pressures that women from the Maghreb region are subjected to on a daily basis.

The idea is inspired by a recently launched campaign entitled “Be a Lady They Said” initiated by the fashion magazine Girls Girls Girls, and it was implemented in an artwork entitled “Sois une femme – كني امرأة” (Be a lady).

The latter highlights the huge amount of contradictions experienced by Moroccan women in society, as well as the physical, mental and social violence they are subjected to.

“The campaign is imbued with the desire to denounce all the codes and stereotypes that shape the Moroccan feminine ideal and the model to which each woman must aspire to achieve. Codes as violent as they are contradictory, which hinder the freedom of Moroccan women, to identify themselves as they please” reads a statement from “Jeel Média”.
