The series “Les Marocains” by Leila Alaoui exhibited in Madrid

Until 22 September in Madrid, Casa Arabe hosts the exhibition “Les Marocains” signed by Moroccan photographer Leila Alaoui. On display are thirty life-size portraits made in several regions of Morocco by the artist murdered on January 15, 2016 in a terrorist attack in Ouagadougou.

As part of the 22nd edition of the Photo España Festival and in collaboration with the Moroccan Embassy in Spain, Casa Arabe presents, until 22 September in Madrid, “Les Marocains” by Leila Alaoui. In this series of photographs, the late artist who died on January 15, 2016 in a terrorist attack in Ouagadougou, immortalized life-size portraits made in several regions of Morocco.

For Guillaume de Sardes, curator, Leila Alaoui’s chosen collection is the one that made her famous. For her part, the President of the Foundation Leila Alaoui and mother of the artist, Christine Alaoui, recalled that this exhibition represents a sociological and anthropological project initiated by a committed photographer who ” has become a global icon of social photography”. And to reveal: “We have found a place where we will base the foundation and where we can organize exhibitions, invite artists committed in the social work and give lectures and workshops for disadvantaged children”.
