54.4% is the prevalence rate of violence against women at the national level. A figure that results from the second National Survey on the prevalence of violence against women whose preliminary results were unveiled on May 7 in Rabat.
The first survey was from 2009 and was published in 2012. The outlines of the second National Survey on the prevalence of violence against women was revealed on May 7 by the Minister of Family, Solidarity, Equality and Social Development, Bassima Hakkaoui.
Results: The prevalence rate of violence against women is 54.4% at the national level (55.8% in urban areas and 51.6% in rural areas). The most vulnerable category comprises of women aged between 25 to 29. The rate is 59.8%! In the conjugal context, the figures are equally frightening: 54.4% of engaged women and 52.5% of brides were victims of violence, and this at a national level.
If we take violence in public places, we realize that the numbers are increasing. In the first National Survey, there was a prevalence rate of 9.7%. Today, it is 12.4% … 19.6% of women in rural areas and 16.9% in urban areas have experienced violence.
Moreover, 13.4% of women said they had been victims of cyber violence, with 71.2% of these acts being harassed … With regard to lawsuits, the percentage of women victims who lodged a complaint was 6.6%. 7.7% in urban areas versus 4.2% in rural areas.
