Najat Rochdi, new humanitarian advisor to the UN Special Envoy for Syria

Moroccan Najat Rochdi has been appointed Senior Humanitarian Adviser to the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, announced the organization on Tuesday.

After serving as Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Humanitarian Coordinator in the Central African Republic (CAR), Morocco’s Najat Rochdi has been appointed Senior Humanitarian Adviser to the UN Special Envoy for Syria as announced by the UN in a statement.

 “I am honored and privileged to join and support humanitarian access and the protection of civilians in #Syria,” Najat Rochdi, also PhD student in mathematics and computer engineer, told his Twitter account. She succeeds Norway’s Jan Egeland who is also pleased with the name of the woman who will take up the baton: “I am very happy to see the competent Najat Rochdi succeed me as Chair of the Humanitarian Task Force for Syria”. And to recall: “Here, Russia, the United States, Iran, Turkey, the Gulf countries, etc., having a direct influence on the ground, sit at the same table and must be held responsible for the lack of access to civilians in need. “
