Travel to and from the cities of Tangier, Tetouan, Fez, Meknes, Casablanca, Berrechid, Settat and Marrakech, were suspended from Sunday July 26 at midnight, announced a joint statement from the Ministries of the Interior and of Health.

“Taking into account the considerable increase in recent days of cases of Covid-19 contamination in several prefectures and provinces; And based on the conclusions of the daily monitoring and periodic assessment of the epidemiological situation in our country; And as part of the strengthening of the measures taken to fight against the spread of this pandemic;

It was decided, as of this Sunday, July 26 at midnight, to prohibit travel to and from the cities of Tangier, Tetouan, Fez, Meknes, Casablanca, Berrechid, Settat and Marrakech.

Excluded from this decision are people with urgent medical needs, people working in the public and private sectors with mission orders issued by their managers, provided that they hold a special travel authorization issued by the local authorities.

It should be noted that this prohibition does not apply to the transport of goods and basic products which takes place under normal and fluid conditions to supply citizens with their daily needs.

This decision was taken in view of the non-compliance by the majority of citizens with preventive measures, in this case social distancing, the wearing of masks, the use of disinfectants, despite their availability in large quantities in the markets, leading to the spread of infection and the rise in confirmed cases. Faced with this situation, the public authorities call on citizens to strictly respect these measures under penalty of rigorous repressive measures, in accordance with the law ”.
