The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the list of referees selected for the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations scheduled from November 8 to 22 in Cairo. Among them is Morocco’s Fathia Jermoumi.

Fathia Jermoumi is one of the referees chosen by the CAF Referees Committee for the upcoming Africa U-23 Cup of Nations, which will be held from November 8 to 22 in Cairo.

For this men’s tournament, 12 referees and 13 assistant referees were selected. Among them, a female trio. In addition to Fathia Jermoumi wearing the assistant referee cap, two other women: the Rwandan referee Salma Mukasanga and the Zambian assistant referee Diana Chikotesha.

This is the second time that CAF has chosen to appoint female referees to officiate a men’s tournament. Indeed, last April, the CAF appointed for the first time three women. It was at the U-17 African Nations Cup in Tanzania. For Eddy Maillet, head of the CAF Referees Committee quoted on the CAF website: “The presence of Salma (Mukasanga), one of our best referees, who recently officiated at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. FIFA, last summer in France, is a considerable advantage for CAF. She will be assisted at U-23 CAN by two equally qualified experts, Fathia (Jermouni) and Diana (Chikotesha) “. Stay tuned!
