In May, Maryam Touzani’s first feature, Adam, represented Morocco at the Cannes festival, in the official selection “Un Certain regard”. Thereafter, the film followed a remarkable course in festivals all over the world.
To date, it has won 16 awards and has been the subject of very positive reviews from the international press, including Variety, Hollywood Reporter and Screen International, which have ranked it among the best films in Cannes this year. Adam was also shown at a gala evening at the Marrakech International Film Festival and was chosen to represent Morocco at the Oscars this year.
Maryam Touzani says she is very happy that her film is released on Moroccan screens: “Adam has given me a lot of happiness so far. The fact of having traveled all over the world with my film and having met different audiences was very encouraging. To be able to show it today to the Moroccan public, its destined audience is very beautiful and very moving. ”
The producer, Nabil Ayouch, says he is very proud of Adam’s journey: “Make no mistake. Although Adam is talking about a very current topic, namely abortion and the right of women to dispose of their bodies, it is above all a great cinema film. Maryam showed a lot of brilliance in its direction, especially of actresses and sobriety in its staging. ”
On January 15, the Moroccan public will be able to discover Adam all over the Kingdom, before its release on February 5 in France, Belgium and Switzerland.
