The event coincided with the opening of « Ello7ate » exhibition, at the same gallery, by artist and singer Oum’s father, Benessahraoui.
According to the press release, « Musiciennes du Maroc » which translates to « The female musicians of Morocco » offer us selected portraits of singers and musicians who have their courage, audacity and musical talent in common. It is a tribute to the artistic work of women and their passion for music. The translation of these portraits of exceptional women into Arabic and English might give them national and international visibility.
With the participation of musicologist Ahmed Aydoun, the book honors singers with timeless repertoires such as Zohra el Fassia, diva Haja Hamdaouia, women’s orchestras from Tetouan and Chefchaouen, Malhoun singers and Sufi poets such as Karima Skalli and Touria Hadraoui among others.
The new generation of singers such as Oum, who enchanted those in the room with a prompt performance, Hindi Zahra, Nabila Maan, Asmae Lamnouar and Rapper Soultana is also honored. The book is available in the three languages and is out for sale for MAD 490.
