On December 8, the curtain fell on the 17th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival. An edition rich in images, debates and emotions. The 17th edition of this international cinema event was also marked by a great public enthusiasm for the various screenings and programmed activities.
The jury of the 17th edition, presided over by the American director James Gray, delivered his verdict after an 8-day competition of 14 films.
L’Etoile d’Or (the Golden Star) of the Marrakech International Film Festival was awarded to Joy, directed by Sudabeh Mortezai (Austria). The jury Grand Prize went to La Camarista, by Lila Avilès (Mexico). For the Best Director award, the jury chose to consecrate Teret of Ognjen Glavonic (Serbia).
Also highly anticipated are the Best actor and Best actress awards. At the end of their deliberations, the nine jury members awarded the two prizes to Nidhal Saadi and Aenne Schwaz for their respective performances in Look At Me by Nejib Belkadhi (Tunisia) and Alle ist Gut by Eva Trobisch (Germany).
The 17th edition of the Festival also honored three big names in the industry. Robert De Niro, Agnès Varda and Jillali Ferhati received the Golden Star of the Festival in tribute to their prodigious careers. With their talent and generosity they illuminated the festival’s Red Carpet and the scene of the Palais des congrès in Marrakech.
