Leïla Slimani’s “Chanson Douce” to have an American adaptation

Known as “The Perfect Nanny” in the United States, Leila Slimani’s “Chanson Douce” continues to amaze. The bestseller published in August 2016, which won the Prix Goncourt award in the same year, is preparing for a big screen adaptation in the United States.

The success continues to smile to the Franco-Moroccan writer. After the announcement of Leila Slimani’s film adaptation of “Chanson Douce” (Editions Gallimard) in France, “The Perfect Nanny”, is soon to have an English-language film adaptation in the United States.

The Californian production company Legendary Entertainment reportedly signed an agreement with Why Not and Pan-European (currently in post-production on the French adaptation of the novel), for a feature film version on the big screen, The Hollywood Report reported.

“The Perfect Nanny”,  is ranked by the New York Times in the top 10 best selling books of 2018 in the United States. For now, more information is yet to be revealed about the American adaptation of the book.

Meanwhile, the French version will be directed by Lucie Borleteau. The film will bring together Leïla Bekhti, in the role of the mother, Karin Viard, who will play the role of the nanny, and Antoine Reinartz, who won César of the best actor in a supporting role in 2018.

Last May, ‘Chanson Douce’ known as ‘Lullaby’ in the UK won the “Debut fiction” award at the British Book Awards.
