In Laayoune, a call for greater political involvement of women with disabilities was launched by the participants in a study day organized on Wednesday, October 16th. An event concocted by the Association for the Support of Persons with Disabilities in Laayoune (ADAPH) under the theme “Raising awareness among disabled women about the importance of participation in the management of the local thing”.
“It is about time to promote the integration of women with specific needs in different positions of responsibility to reflect Morocco’s civilizational and democratic image.” This sentence was made by Fatma Lamsaadi, president of the Association for the Support of Persons with Disabilities in Laayoune (ADAPH), who organized a meeting on Wednesday, October 16th, under the theme “Raising awareness among women with disabilities of the importance of participation in the management of the local thing “.
At the end of the day, participants called for greater political involvement of women with disabilities at local, regional and national levels. For, as the representative points out, “never has the integration of the gender and disability dimensions into national politics and the various sustainable development programs been more urgent”.
Invited to this meeting, the chairman of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra Regional Commission for Human Rights (CRDH), Toufik El Bardiji, recalled that women’s involvement in the political process and development programs is part of efforts to combat all forms of discrimination against women. For him, the focus should be on strengthening the managerial capacities of women with disabilities, promoting their economic empowerment, developing accessibility and spreading the values of justice and equality.
