American actor Johnny Depp will reportedly join the team of the next Colombian director, Ciro Guerra, for an adaptation of the book “Waiting for the Barbarians”, a work by the South African Nobel Prize winner John Maxwell Coetzee and published in 1980. Said several news agencies.
British actors Robert Pattinson and Mark Rylance will be the main actors of this film, whose shooting will begin in Morocco in the autumn according to the director.
“We hope to start shooting at the end of the year in Morocco. It will be my first film outside of Colombia and in English.” Said the director in a statement to AFP.
Johnny Depp, for his part, contacted the Colombian to work under his direction and appear in this political thriller inspired by apartheid in South Africa and which tells the story of a British judge in a small colonial town, helpless in the face of an officer who provokes a war to make his career take off.
In related news, Ciro Guerra screened his latest film “Pájaros de verano” (Birds of Paradise) at Cannes Film Festival during Director’s Fortnight. He will be signing his first feature film with this upcoming adaptation.
