Written by FDM

Jazz at Chellah, the oldest jazz festival in Morocco and the first festival dedicated to European jazz in the world, is preparing to mark the return of Rabat’s cultural season on 25th to 29th September 2019 in the grounds of the historic site Chellah.

For this 24th edition, “azz au Chellah”, which is organized by the European Union in Morocco in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Communication, about forty artists from 12 European countries from different musical universes, will be joined on stage by a dozen of Moroccan artists.

The opening night will also be marked by the presence of African sounds through a Franco-Senegalese group. On this occasion, Claudia Wiedey, Ambassador of the European Union to Morocco declared: “We wanted to open a space of expression to Senegalese music because we also want to celebrate Africa in its plural dimensions.”

Five nights, to each stage its specificities. Also, and in addition to concerts at Chellah, the festival stays faithful to its philosophy of reaching out to other audiences, a specific program “Festival Hors Chellah” is planned with ambulatory concerts and master classes offered by European and Moroccan musicians to young Moroccan artists.
