Jamel Debbouze nominated for the Molière award

Written by FDM

The prestigious Academy of Molières, which rewards each year the best artists and live shows in France, announced this April 6th its list of nominees.

Jamel Debbouze was spotted in the category ‘Molière de l’humor’ (Molière of humor), nominated for his show Maintenant ou Jamel, directed by Mohamed Hamidi. If the categories in Molières generally have only 4 nominees, the humor category made the exception this year with 5 talents, including a woman.

Last October, after 6 years of absence from the scene, Jamel Debbouze made his successful comeback in stand up comedy with Maintenant ou Jamel. He has since toured in France and Belgium with the show where he talks about his fears, his role as a father, and his career.

The committed artist mocks some political figures, such as Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump, while also discussing subjects like racism and terrorism.

Since the start of the tour, no date has been announced for the Moroccan public. Still, fans in Morocco hope for a representation to be given in light of Marrakech Laughter, which will be held in the ocher city from 20 to 24 June 2018.

On a side note, the Molière Award recognizes achievement in live French theatre and is the national theatre award of France. The awards are presented and decided by the Association professionnelle et artistique du théâtre (APAT) and are given for French productions and performances.
