International Animation film Festival of Meknes 2018: the program revealed

As every year, the imperial city of Meknes hosts the International Animation film Festival of Meknes (FICAM). This year, the 17th edition of FICAM will be held from March 16 to 21, 2018 and returns with a varied, rich and festive selection of animated films.

The festival organized by the Aicha Foundation in partnership with the French Institute of Meknes will pay this year, a tribute to women in animation. An array of international women personalities (directors, screenwriters, producers …) will be invited: Brenda Chapman, a big name of Disney Studios and Pixar and the director of Rebelle (Oscar for the best animated film in 2013) and Céline Sciamma, director and French screenwriter (Tomboy, Band of Islands, My life of zucchini …).

During this 17th edition, a selection of animated films from around the world will be at the rendezvous. Six films were selected for the official competition of this event:

« Mutafukaz » by Guillaume Run Renard (France) and Shojiro Nishimi (Japan), « Minga et la cuillère cassée » by Claye Edou (Cameroun), « Dans un recoin de ce monde » by Sunao Katabuchi (Japan),
« Nelly et Simon, mission Yéti » by Pierre Greco and Nancy Florence Savard (Canada), « A Silent voice » by Naoko Yamada (Japan), and finally « Un homme est mort » by Olivier Coscu (France).

For this 5th edition of the International Feature Film Competition, a jury of high school students will present the award. There will also be an international short animation competition. The FICAM 2018 hosts this year many internationally renowned guests such as: Carlos Saldanha (director of Rio 1 and 2 and Ice Age), Sunao Katabuchi (Japanese director of the film « Dans un recoin de ce monde », jury award at the festival Annecy).

Moreover, round tables and meetings are scheduled for this 17th edition, as well as a presentation for the first time of two French books dedicated to animation. This event aims to participate in the rise of young talents, to promote animation in Morocco and Africa and to make the city of Meknes shine as a center of animation.
