The 18th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival closed this Saturday, December 7th.  The fest’s L’Étoile d’Or was awarded to the film “Valley of Souls” by Colombian director Nicolas Rincon Gille.

The Jury Prize went to Saudi director Abdulmohsen Aldhabaan’s “Last Visit” and Chinese director Zhai Yixiang’s film “Mosaic Portrait”.  The Best Directing Award was given to Tunisian director  Ala Eddine Slim for his film « Tlamess ».

As for the Best Male and Female Performance Awards, they were respectively handed over to Australian actor Toby Wallace in “Babyteeth” and to British actresses Nichola Burley and Roxanne Scrimshaw in “Lynn + Lucy”.

This year, fourteen films competed in the framework of the Official Competition with a jury chaired by Scottish performer and producer Tilda Swinton, who, on the occasion of her first press conference, called for ‘the dismantling of borders between cinematic genres and allowing the self to be impressed by the images and the stories that Marrakech proposes.’

To conclude her role as Jury President of the 18th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival, Tilda Swinton stated: “This experience here during these days has been pure magic for our jury. We have found fellowship, both in the hands of the filmmakers we have been privileged to discover here, and also, profoundly, amongst ourselves. We came together as strangers to find and celebrate the new cinema. We are parting as friends for life. Thank you, dear Marrakech, on behalf of us all, for that. We have been extremely happy here. And our palmarès is entirely unanimous.”
