Fatima Zahra Abu Fares, gold medalist at the Youth Olympic Games (YOG)

Morocco’s Fatima Zahra Abu Fares won a gold medal at Taekwondo on Oct. 11 in Buenos Aires at the Youth Olympic Games (YOG).  

This is the first gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games (YOG). Morocco’s Fatima Zahra Abu Fares (+63 kg) defeated Iran’s Himati Kimya on Oct. 11 in the decisive fourth round of the Taekwondo event following the three tied rounds.

Two days earlier, it was Safia Salih who had won silver in the same discipline. Twenty Moroccan athletes participate in the Youth Olympic Games in eight events: athletics (5 athletes), boxing (4), karate (3), taekwondo (2), judo (2), swimming (2), windsurfing (1) ) and fight (1). Organized around the theme “Living the Future”, the Buenos Aires edition, which runs until October 18th, brings together more than 4,000 athletes from more than 200 countries and spread over 32 sporting events.
