Moroccan actress Fatima Atif won the best actress award for her role in the film “The Healer” at the Malmö Arab Film Festival.
Mohamed Zineddaine’s latest feature film tells the story of Abdou, a 16-year-old who lives on the outskirts of a mining town and struggles to change his life by learning to read and write. But his adoptive mother Mbarka (interpreted by Fatima Atif) stands in his way. She is the healer of the neighborhood that everyone fears and respects. One day, on Abdou’s advice, Chaayba, an uncontrollable woman in her thirties, cynical and pickpocket, was convinced to visit Mbarka to cure the eczema that is causing her pain. Henceforth, the spell will link these three characters.
Thanks to this role, the actress has already won the best female role Award at the Tangier National Film Festival last March, during which “The Healer” also won three other awards: the best male Award (Mehdi El Arroubi), and the awards of the director and the jury.
Mohamed Zineddaine’s film also won the Audience Award at the Ciné-Plage Harhoura Festival, a special mention for the performance at the Rotterdam Film Festival and the Vesuvio Award at the 21st Naples Film Festival.
