Facebook launches a contest for developers in the Middle East and Africa

Written by FDM

Facebook has just launched a contest for programmers from the Middle East and Africa to create smarter bots for its Messenger application.

Mark Zuckerberg is challenging developers across the Middle East and Africa to create innovative bots in the Bots for Messenger Developer Challenge.

The aim of this challenge, according to a statement by the company, is to promote innovation in the Middle East and Africa by providing developers and start-ups with the tools they need to build, grow, monetize, and measure products and services.

In teams of up to three people, developers have until April 28 to register and design their “bots”, interactive virtual robots that “chat” with the user to provide advice or personalized information via the application, in three categories: gaming and entertainment; productivity and utility; and social good.

The competition is launched in two regions: MENA (Middle East / North Africa) and Sub-Saharan Africa.
