In 2021 alone, 135,724 divorces were registered, almost doubling in just one year (76,936 in 2020). Speaking on the matter, the Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi recalled that divorce cases had fallen since the entry into force of the Moudawana in 2004, before rising again in 2021.
In 2005, a year after the reform of the Moudawana allowing women to file for divorce, the number of divorces did not exceed 28,232.
Thus, out of 308,687 marriages celebrated in 2021, a third ended in quick divorce… Between a prevalent trend and the desire for independence, the reasons are multiple: the health and economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the lack of communication and discord in the couple, violence against women induced by the lockdown, etc.
What do you think could be the reasons for this phenomenon?
