Dar Zhor extends a hand to cancer patients

Written by FDM

Dar Zhor, a non-profit association whose objective is to support cancer patients through palliative care, was hosted by a partner. It now has its own premises in Casablanca, inaugurated in February on the occasion of World Cancer Day.

Hypnosis, yoga, beauty treatments, psychological support, physical activity, art therapy, Qigong, Tai Chi are all free of charge services offered to the beneficiaries of Dar Zhor, founded in 2017. As a safe haven, the association offers to patients a multitude of services in a calm and relaxing setting.   “Dar Zhor is a supportive care unit which aims to improve the quality of life of cancer patients”, explains Dr Noufissa Ouazzani, adding that the quality of life and the patients’ mental state represent an important parameter in the healing rates.

Aimed at health professionals and the sick, the association caters for people affected by cancer, throughout the duration of treatment and in the following year, regardless of the type of cancer. Dar Zhor thus welcomed in 2019 roughly 400 people in the context of care workshops, speaking, meditation, … as well as conferences about the disease. This represents real added value for patients and their families, often upset by the violence of the pathology.

As the second cause of mortality, cancer is a public health problem with 52,800 new cases per year. Hence the importance of popularizing information, raising awareness of the side effects of treatment and comprehensive care, which includes psychological support, palliative care, and supportive care.
