The famous actress and ex-minister of culture Touria Jabrane succumbed to the evil that had consumed her for a few months. Hospitalized in critical condition on August 12, the actress died yesterday evening (August 24).
An emblematic figure of the Moroccan theater, but also of cinema and television, Touria Jabrane has perfectly embodied a multitude of characters during a rich and fruitful career. Known for her human qualities, her generosity of soul and a brilliant artistic career, the deceased was a passionate, talented, gifted, sensitive, creative and committed actress. “The theater is my life,” she liked to say, she who has dedicated her entire life to the theater.
As a pioneer in the art of interpretation in Morocco, Touria Jabrane began her career in the 1970s with Tayeb Seddiki’s troupe. Later, it is with the troupe of the Al Yaoum Theater (Theater of today) that she excels in the company of a host of artists, under the leadership of her husband, the playwright Abdelouahed Ouzri. This experience, confirmed her talent thanks to the choice of the themes approached which may have crossed, in the 90s, certain red lines.
After this rich career, Touria Jabrane also took on the post of Minister of Culture in the government led by Abbas El Fassi, between 2007 and 2009, making her the first artist to occupy a power position.
The disappearance of Touria Jabrane at the age of 68 caused deep sorrow.
