The 15-day paternity leave adopted by the House of Representatives

The House of Representatives unanimously adopted, on July 25, the bill allowing civil servants to benefit from 15 days of paternity leave.

The Minister Delegate for the Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Ghita Mezzour, recalled that the text of this bill is applying the April 2022 agreement signed with the most representative trade unions, within the framework of social dialogue.

This bill offers a civil servant (male) who has just had a newborn benefit from 15 days of paid leave. It also provides that a civil servant who takes care of a child under 24 months will also benefit from a 15-day paid leave within the framework of the institution of kafala and in accordance with the laws and regulations in force.

As for the female civil servant, and within the framework of the same institution, she will benefit from a paid leave of 14 weeks in case she’s taking care of a child under 24 months, explained Minister Ghita Mezzour.

According to the Minister, the civil servant will also benefit from one hour of breastfeeding per day from the expiry of maternity leave until the newborn reaches 24 months.
